How to turn your surfboard – Look, Point, Pivot…Turn!
Globe Skateboards & Apparel
After a brisk May and June things are really heating up at the beach and surf school now July is in full swing. A few of the local schools are using us for their activity week providers (I’m sure when I was at school I was forced to sit in a stuffy classroom during the last few weeks of term) so the sea is full of frothing teenagers while the changing rooms are full to the brim with odd socks and empty crisp packets. Just kidding, they are actually a credit to their schools and it’s way more fun than I’m making it sound!
The surf coaches have been super busy and in the shop we have been taking delivery of tons of new stock for the coming summer holidays. We are pleased to say that we will soon be taking stock of some Globe skateboards later in the week. Globe have got a long heritage with surfing and skateboarding and are well known for their incredible range of shoes and apparel. More recently they have got into the skateboarding hardware in a big way and they have a superb range of skateboards featuring everything from the Bantam lightweight plastic cruiser to the Pinner bamboo longboards. Naturally they come with bonkers graphics and are ready to ride.
Head into the store over the next couple of weeks for a gander or, if you can, wait till we get them online over the weekend.
Whitsun Opening Times | New Website
May has flown by so far and now we find ourselves in the final week with the tabloids predicting a heatwave for the bank holiday weekend alongside the customary yearly appearance of a shark sighting scare story. The silly season has begun.
Opening Times
We will be open everyday from 10am to 6pm from now until November so if you are looking for some surfing lessons, surf hire or want to take a SUP out for a paddle then come on down. If you want to get a quick surf check in the morning you can even head to our Facebook page where we upload a surf report every morning at around 10am.
New Website
The eagle eyed amongst you will notice that we have upgraded our website and updated our logo over the last couple of weeks. We have been working in conjunction with Lighthouse Media and we are delighted with the results.
[themedy_columns structure=”50|50″][themedy_col position=”a”]You may remember David Foster, the chap who runs Lighthouse Media, from the early days of Gwithian Academy of Surfing. He worked with us during our first few years when we ran from the back of a trailer at steps behind Gwithian Lifeguard Hut and still does the occasional lesson for us today. He works in London these days but when he is back down next try to spare a couple of minutes to watch him surf. He was an English Champion in his youth and surfed his way to 3rd place in the European Surfing Championships and 47th place in the World Amateur Championships. He still surfs incredibly well now and has one of the smoothest styles going.[/themedy_col][themedy_col position=”b”]Pic by Mike Newman Photography[/themedy_col][/themedy_columns]
