At Gwithian Academy of Surfing we’re all about sharing our passion for surfing and the unmistakeable ‘stoked’ feeling that it brings.
Whether you are learning the basics of surfing, or fine tuning your technique, our surfing experiences are tailored to your individual needs and will set you up for a lifetime of surfing.

Group Surfing Lessons
Learn the basics or hone your skills in similar-ability-groups of up to eight people. During the Summer months lessons usually run twice daily at 10am and 1:30pm (booking essential); call us for lesson times during the off-season. The cost of a lesson is £40 per person, with discounts available for multiple lessons or people.
Private Surfing Lessons
A private lesson with us will guarantee personalised, individual tuition and is a great option for families, parties or groups of friends.
Advanced Surf Coaching with Video Analysis
For and instant and objective appraisal of your surfing nothing beats video analysis.
Take your surfing to the next level with our Advanced Coaching Sessions that include video analysis and feedback from our experienced coaches.
Surf Equipment Hire
If it’s just equipment you need we’ve got ya! We hire a wide range of surfboards, bodyboards, wetsuits and wetsuit accessories, with combo-deals available.

Cornwall’s premier surf school
At our surf school we take surf tuition seriously and work hard to make sure that your surfing lesson is as fun and rewarding as possible. For this reason all of our coaches are fully qualified as surf coaches, lifeguards and first aiders and two have even coached the British Junior Surfing Team on a number of occasions. A surf lesson with us can help you to achieve all of your surfing goals.
Gwithian Academy of Surfing is an Academy of Surfing Instructors Accredited Surf School (one of only three in Britain) that operates from Gwithian – the Northernmost point of St Ives Bay – and is very close to the towns of Hayle, St Ives and Penzance.
The surf school is run from a purpose built beach-side location where we can offer changing facilities, a classroom for teaching surfing theory and facilities for video analysis within an easy level walk of the shoreline. The surf school is right next to a large car park so parking is always available.
Gwithian Academy of Surfing offers group and private surfing lessons for all levels – beginners, intermediate and advanced- and for all ages. We regularly cater for families, backpackers, children, schools and corporate groups.
Accommodation can also be provided in our beautiful seaside village to help make your stay the perfect surfing holiday.
