During your first surfing lesson you will never venture beyond waist depth and every surfing technique that you attempt will be after a clear explanation in small, easy to understand segments . We focus on creating a positive learning environment where you feel confident enough to challenge yourself and achieve each new surfing goal.
Once at the beach your session will be broken down into three sections. Each technique is first taught on land before being refined in the sea. You will not be thrown in the deep end and there will always be a surf coach (also qualified as a lifeguard) within 20 metres of you at all times.
When you check-in for your lesson you will be introduced to your coach so that you can ask any questions. You may wish to take a camera, towel or medication down the beach – this is no problem at all. We have a waterproof bag that we carry down to the beach for every session which contains our first aid kit, emergency phone and equipment spares. You are more than welcome to put your things in there.
Many of our competitors teach by rote learning (mindless repetition). We prefer to teach you how to be self sufficient in the water: safely selecting & catching waves and also getting you to understand how to self correct. From this strong foundation all of your future surfing will be built on.
After your first surfing lesson you will be offered the opportunity keep hold of your surfboard & wetsuit to stay surfing for a further hour and a half of practise or come back to the surf school and prepare for your next session.
From here you will be encouraged to to set new, achievable goals and take your surfing to the next level.
